Luna Apartments is one of our most notable achievements during our twenty years of contributing to the lighting industry. Working with award-winning architects Elenberg Fraser and multi-disciplinary consultants Meinhardts Engineering, we collaborated to create a strong functional and aesthetic solution that is still admired in St Kilda, VIC. As the project presented design issues and unique challenges, we are very proud to have achieve great results.

Bluelab designed and manufactured an LED IP-rated marine-grade fixture to sit neatly under the railing, being mindful that the lighting would simultaneously act as fascia lighting for Luna Apartments. It was important to create a fitting that would not only just fit the specified mounting, but to be unobtrusive whilst illuminating the balcony. Lighting with a two-fold function became the theme throughout the project.

Downlights are the common solution when it comes to illuminating accommodation since they are cheap and ‘get the job done’. It is common that these create uncomfortable levels of glare and over time, lose their brightness and colour and in many cases, fall subject to the inferior products on the market that invariably fail just after warranty (normally 12 months).

When it came to Luna Apartments though, Bluelab helped Elenberg Fraser see their innovative design through in working with them and Meinhardts Engineering. We were able to provide calculations sampling light levels to ensure the Designer’s vision. Trim-less LED extrusions were recessed mounted into the walls to create a sophisticated and exceptional walkthrough that illuminates the corridor to standards. As the LED has zero beading through it, the lighting are clean immaculate lines that section walls in a subtle manner. A robust double diffuser ensures the design was practical within the corridor withstanding the knocks and bumps all too common in multi-residential corridor traffic. Bluelab Design have the technical expertise to work in conjunction with designers and engineers to allow the most bold and ambitious ideas come to life.

The same LED lights were applied with numbering to display apartment numbers for guests.
