Commercial Interior Designers, KHID in Melbourne created a concept luminaire with a challenge.
The 360 degree illuminating pipe provides lighting for the Knee Institute in NSWs busy reception. The bold design balances the reception joinery while adding task lighting for staff and up lighting to elevate the ceiling line.
Two curved black arms hold the illuminated opal tube centrally curving up to the ceiling one side and to the reception desk at the other. This dramatic design is purposeful, using design to create a solution decoratively.
Office over the country have power feeds running from the ceiling to work stations like an ugly umbilical cord wrapped in a duct. This solution was not ideal for the Knee Institutes beautifully designed reception. The 240V cable and data cable are fed through the feature lighting arms, into the centre of the luminaire and through the second arm to power the desk. Providing power to the work station without the eyesore power ducts.
