Lyons Architects in Melbourne contacted Bluelab Design with concise drawings of a feature pendants for over study desks for Murdoch University, Boola Katitjin Building, Perth WA.

Three 2m double arms meeting in a central feed, calculating to 6 outreach arms with upward and downward lighting.   4 rod suspensions, one rod housing the luminaire cable entry to timber ceiling.  Custom powder coat in 2 finishes:  Wedgewood Blue and Pale Eucalyptus.  The outreach arm is neatly finished at the ends with a rounded end cap.

Having 6x 2m illuminating outreach arms became a problem to meat lighting requirements for the study surface.  Bluelab Design modelled the product and calculated the lumen output needed for each arm.  We then sourced low powered PCB’s to provide appropriate lighting.  Preliminary designs were submitted to NDY Engineers for approval, prior to production.  While these lights were a feature, they had a clear function and good illumination is vital in study spaces.

Murdoch University’s custom study desk lights follow the line of the unique study desks.  Even illumination for the desk surface and upward lighting to wash the large mass engineered timbers.
